Jenn Mack, write-in candidate for governor, spoke Friday at the Menudo Club in South Houston. Attendees reported the room was cold when she started and on its feet at the end, with several people going to her afterward to say they had their votes.
She opened by telling them she expected to offend them. "I'm known to be a bit offensive, not because I don't care, but because I love Texas and I'm afraid we're about to lose it."
"A tax burden that, by any honest measure, should have already started a revolt by now." The tax burden per person in Texas has risen 60 percent or more under Greg Abbott.
"For those who wonder why I don't try again in four years, because Agenda 2030 is three years and three months away."
"Cartels and terrorists operate inside of our communities. I came in from Uvalde, was there about 20 years, and I'm telling you that they do."
"We have mosques that are becoming more of the storehouses that God tells our church to become by storing up the beans, bullets, the Band-Aids. Meanwhile, our churches are telling our men to be quiet." And: "A pastor should be a shepherd that would fight a lion and a bear for you."
"The parent of a student who is standing up against a school district is also put on an extremist list. Those are still in the archives."
"We will spend three years complaining about why our candidate broke our promises, and then in the fourth year, we're going to hold our nose and vote for them again."
"I have not seen a Republican form of government since I was young, and that is what the Republican Party used to stand for. I believed that God Himself was a Republican from Texas. I really did. And I'm going to tell you, this movement to become an independent has been a huge trial for me... at some point we have to say that we're on the side of the Lord."
"A write-in is one way that you will not have your name removed. They cannot replace it. Your dead grandmother can't vote for me. You have to physically write it in the way the old paper ballots were."
She closed: "I'm running for governor of Texas. Would you be willing to stand behind a candidate who loves Texas so much that she's willing to offend you into action?"
Attendees reported the room stood, and several people went to her afterward to say she had won their votes.
Early voting ends tonight at 7 p.m. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Select Write-In and type JENN MACK for Governor of Texas.
